We are a consortium of local providers working in County Durham to provide courses through Durham County Council Adult Learning & Skills Service. Our providers are Cool Blue Consultancy Ltd, Oldfield’s Consultancy Ltd, Stanley Events Ltd; PACT House and Stanley; Just For Woman.
Our courses include a broad range of opportunities for personal development, support for health and well-being and the chance to gain skills and qualifications for further education and employment.
We pride ourselves on providing person-centred impartial information, advice and guidance to help support learners make informed choices about their study options. We have a dedicated member of staff to support learners prior to and during their programmes to help support the learners journey.
WHO IS SUITABLE?
To be eligable for our courses, you must live in County Durham and be aged over 19 on August 31st 2019. There are no prior qualifications needed to attend our courses.
You will need to bring the following to enrol on the course: National Insurance Number, Proof of residency e.g passport, driving licence, utility bill with address etc. It would be useful to bring a notebook and writing materials to the sessions.

HABC LEVEL 2 AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE: This course will develop the skills and abilites of each individual learner to understand the importance and practical application of customer service in the working environment. The learners will understand the importance of working together as part of a team and understand how to deal with customers who are angry and making complaints. Understand the importance of developing customer skills and communication with the customer and ensuring customers are treat with respect at all times. HABC LEVEL 2 AWARD FOOD SAFETY IN CATERING: This course will develop the skills and abilites of each individual learner to understand the importance of food safety and apply these in practice. The learners will understand the importance of preparing safe food practice through an interactive session that will support learners and maintain there attention to ensure that training is fun, interactive and builds on there current skill levels of food safety. HABC LEVEL 2 AWARD HEALTH & SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE: This course will develop the skills and abilites of each individual learner to understand the importance of health and safety and apply these in practice. The learners will understand the importance of operating in a safe working environment as well as develop a higher understanding of safe working practice through an interactive session that will support learners and maintain their attention to ensure the training is fun, interactive and builds on there current skill levels of health & safety.

INTODUCTION TO HOSPITALITY, LEISURE AND CULTURE SECTOR: This non-accredited course gives an introduction into the hospitality, leisure and culture sector. This will cover various job roles and responsibilites within the sector and the importance of customer service skills.( 5 HOUR COURSE) INTRODUCTION TO BAR MANAGMENT: This non-accredited course gives an introduction into bar managment. This course will explore the various roles within bar management including cellar management and mixology. This will also include the practical application of cellar managment and mixology.(5 HOUR COURSE)
RISKY BEHAVIOURS AND STAYING SAFE: This course will explore with learners the following risky behaviours and how they can stay safe: Safeguarding; Staying Safe online; sexual health; substance misuse; gambling addiction; British Values; equality & diversity. (52 HOUR COURSE) GET INTO HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE: This course will support learners in understanding topics that people need to be aware of to work in the Health & Social Care sector including Manual Handling; Dementia Awareness; Infection Control; Safeguarding; Challenging Behaviours; Food Safety; Health & Safety & Fire Safety. (70 HOUR COURSE) GET INTO WORK: This course covers a variety of topics that employers request from employees which will include health & safety; manual handling; food safety. Equip learners so they can progress into employment and have more of an awareness of the sectors of employment they could go into.(52 HOUR COURSE)

LEVEL 2 AWARD IN FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH: This course will support people in understanding mental health and being aware of the signs of ill-health, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. This course will help build capacity in communites and also supports the mental health agenda.

LEVEL 2 AWARD IN UNDERSTANDING STEWARDING AT SPECTATOR EVENTS: This course is aimed to give an insight and training for people who are intrested in becoming event stewards. It utilises the industry standard models and it’s drawn directly from the specification supplied. Learning objectives include how to prepare for events, control entry and exit of customers, identify and deal with crowd problems and respond to emergencies. Also, as partof the offer, Stanley events will interview and recruit staff from the cohorts of learners who complete this training. (4 DAY COURSE)
MUSIC &/ OR ART THERAPY: This non-accredited course will support learners to learn how to play basic guitar; keyboard and percussion instruments or participate in arts. These can be helpful as means of exploring relationships and be a source of mutal support, reducing isolation, leading to great self understanding and better health and wellbeing; learn new skills and be creative. (18 HOUR COURSE) DJING TO WELLNESS: This non-accredited course will help learners understand the operation and running of the community radio station whilst sharing views & interests; to build purpose; create something to be proud of; covering presenting, production, promotion, listening, sharing and how music can support wellbeing. (5 HOUR COURSE) INTRODUCTION TO I.T: This non-accredited course will support learners in setting up emails (which are essential now for benefit claims) and making benefit claims; using basic IT packages, such as Word to write letters and CVs etc. Also using social media and staying safe online. (5 HOUR COURSE) KIDS ‘N’ KITCHEN: This non-accredited course will support families to cook from the food parcel contents. The contents of food parcel are a minimum of 3 days’ nutritionally balanced, non-perishable tinned and dried foods. They will benefit from learning to save money; save time; be creative; practice in self-care; become more mindful of spending on food and how with a food parcel of £10 you can create a variety of meals. Each week, the meals produced will be then tried and tested by the group. The learners for this course will be familes that are eligible for Free School Meals and familes with low income; familes experiencing povety/in-work povety and familes where both parents are unemployed.(18 HOUR COURSE)
